Getting Started

Reading to Blog

What’s more important the book or our interpretations of the book? Can there be a book without there being interpretation? We’ll be able to answer some of those questions after we’ve recorded the history of our relationships with our books. In order to preserve paper and promote our communication with the academic world outside of CNG, we’ll be keep blogs about the books we read.

You will write you own blogs, and respond to your blogs as prescribed by your weekly homework sheet. You should not approach each blog the same way. With variety comes varied thought; therefore, I propose focusing on different topics and using different approaches in each entry. Here are some possibilities:

- Respond to the text personally

I never had my house blown down by a wolf, but I did have felt loss. For example, I once abandoned my favorite apartment. I left most of my furniture there, some clothes, even a television!

- Connect text to another book, a film, work of art, a comic or any other creation

The Three Little Pigs reminds me of The Matrix. When the Wolf “huffed and puffed and blew his house down” he acted just as Morpheus did for Reeve’s character. Suddenly, Reeves was without the security he once felt.

- Ask questions to later answer

What might the grandmother represent?

Why would the Wolf want to blow down the houses?

How might I write a better ending?

I would then maybe answer these questions in later blogs.
You may use any combination of these, or you can write your own type of entries. Let your reading guide your entries.

You will be assessed using the rubric distributed in class

I look forward to reading and responding to your entries.

I think you are right in saying that we have to analize literature and movies and compare them to our own lives. Not only are they terrific stories, but they are meant to reach you in some way or another. We need to extract from them something that is meaningful and useful to our lives.

The idea of making comments about the books is excellent. The best way to fully undesrtand them is to compare them with real life situations or other books, movies or tv shows.

With this program you can also find comments about similar topics and that makes everything easier to understand.

I think it is noice and interesting to make comments on the books we read and I'm sure its going to be a great help for the books we read.

And plus to me analyzing books has always made me understand them better so I think this is an optimum idea for when reading books

Personally I think opinions on the books we read should be ours but being able to compare and contrast ideas (or opinion) on such book or texts can help us base our opinions better.

Orsino PUA said...

I believe that you have a good point asking if there can be a book without it being interpretated. Without an interpretation of a book, the fact of reading it would be meaningless. You read a book because you want to learn something new of the book. So if you dont interpertate it, you would have no new ideas gained from the book.

Sharing comments about books, and asimilating them to movies, or even other books, is a very interesting idea. I belive this can help us analyze our reading opinions, and compare them to other people comments and points of view, which will make our minds get a more clear critique about what piece of literature we are interested in.

Making a reading blog, I think will be very interesting because each of us has different reactions to what we read and have been exposed to different type of things we can relate to our reading, so it will be interesting to see how others react to the different texts.

In analyzing literature, we should also view the matphor independently to understand what the author wanted to convey before we compare or liken it to other forms of media so we will not dilute the meaning it was meant to have. Once we have a grasp on that we can freely compare and expand our interpretation.

I think it is a great idea. Finally something different and original in one of my classes. Hope it turns out well.

i think that by doing this exercise we are not only learning how to analize a book but we are also learning to teach echother about what we think. plus now days the internet is a tool that every person uses and feels conftable with so by using it as a tool in this class, we are making the assingments and the work a lot more interesting for us!!!

Well sir to be honest with you, I never thought i was going to have my own blog. Your idea of reading and doing blog entries sound interesting and i think it will help us keep track of what we are reading. I hope we have a great semester together and i know we are going to get along just fine.!!

Making comments and analyzing books has always been our english class main point. However, discussing the book's themes and relating them to
our daily lives is a much more efficient way of criticizing and understand books from different points of view. Hopefully through our blog entries and our dicussions in class I will be able to achieve what I said before.

Natalia Calderon Baron said...

Interpretation is the basis, of literature, which consists basically of the writers point of view and the meaning each and every one of us gives a piece of literature. In fact the whole magic and mysticism of literature is based on interpretation, without interpretation literature itself is worthless.

Although i have never done this kind of analysis to the book i read, i consider it a very efficient way to keep track of our reading, not only just to check comprehension but to enhance a deeper interpretation of the book. see you next class! Chicho

Sharing our comments of books will not only make us have different views of each book but we will aswell learn how ourclassmates think and it will help us to get to know each other

I think that making our opinions and discussions about the books more public is an interesting idea since we can see other points that maybe we missed, or have a totally opposite perspectives. I am sure that I while I read the book and the blogs at the same time a lot of doubts will be clarified so I’m looking forward to start this program.

Juliana.S said...

It will be useful to analyze books, so we can be able to find connections and similarities between them and our lives, what will slowly develop appreciation towards them.

Using blogs to discuss the books we will be reading is beneficial, as it will allow us to use and learn about other ways of communication in the web (apart from MySpace, and Facebook...)

serna2008 said...

I would have to agree with you in this case(after what you have to say about analyzing books in order to enable further and deeper understanding of the book we'll be reading.

Also, I find it very useful to have different examples about what to blogg and how to do it.

As to what I hope to get out of this experience is to gain a comfortable approach to expressing my ideas about literature.
